Tuesday we played a home game against a smaller school, Gethsemane. My varsity boys were finally victorious, and I even let them run the score up...just a little. I feel bad for the 2-3 boys who actually play basketball on the court. The other 3-5 boys I have on my varsity team could pass for warm bodies, that's about all. They just don't have the heart. So I was happy to get a win.
Wednesday we had practice and it was pretty worthless. My JV team is very immature, and since they have a tournament this weekend (see farther in this post) I wanted them to work their offense. Well they didn't do so well. After practice let out and the children were gone by 6:00 I had a meeting to call a pastor at 6:30. Two hours later we are on our way to getting a pastor here! This is good, but I was not a happy camper. I had officially been out of my house for 14 hours by that point. I just wanted to go home and go to bed....so I did!
Thursday started the tournament. Redeemer is hosting it and since I'm the AD for Redeemer, I get to do alot of the work for the tournament. I had a sub come in for me at noon at which point I frantically printed more things, stuffed coaches packets, and made a list so I could cross things off of it! I finally got out of school by 1pm, picked up trophies, glue, books, and tickets. When I got to Redeemer I realized I had left the programs at Emmaus, so I had to go BACK to Emmaus to get them! CRaZy!
So, as the AD in charge of the tournament I made a giant tournament bracket to put on the wall of the gym. It was all typed and glued and pretty. I had all the teams names printed three times so that I could fill in the bracket as the tournament progressed. Well after the first game of the tournament I went to my office to get the spiffy new glue pen I had purchased so I could glue the appropriate winners and losers onto the big bracket. Well, Mona was in the office distracting me, along with two refs (I let them use my office in between games, nice, huh?). So The glue won't come out. I'm talking to Mona about how this was crap, I'd just bought the glue. I unscrewed the lid thinking perhaps it was jammed. Well, I squeezed it and still nothing. So I'm looking at the glue pen, and I give it a really hard squeeze..............glue EVERYWHERE!!! In my hair, on my face, on my shirt, OVER my shoulder, on the floor, on the refs shoe, EVERYWHERE. Really cool! Oh, did I mention one ref was on my good looking ref count? Yeah, nice. So in an attempt to clean up a bit before walking across the gym to the bathroom to really clean up, I have "Something about Mary" hair, glue on my shirt, and oh, it's dripping off my forehead! It was crazy. Funny. The second game when I was doing the books, I didn't do so well. Glue in the brain. My boys played the third game, and got beat...bad.
Today I drug myself to school, quasi taught, served lunch and took the kiddies to another game at Bethlehem. We lost. Now it's late and I'm trying to get some grading done so that I can finish running the tournament tomorrow and then go skiing on Sunday.
