I like to waste time...while I'm wasting it, but once it's wasted I wish that I wouldn't have wasted it. I think it's an endless cycle. I'm aware of it, yet I continue to do it.
Right now for example. I brought my backpack downstairs complete with my grade book. I had every intention of entering my grade into InClass (our online grading program). Instead I check my email (about 10 times), read some random away messages, looked up information on the local bus routes (I'm thinking of saving a bit of money on the gas and riding the bus once or twice a week), and looked at many house (condo) possibilities. It is now 8:30 and I'm thinking I should get ready for bed. Have I entered my grades? NOPE! I'm blogging! Oh how I love procrastination. My mom thinks that I took Napping 101, 201, 301, and 401 while I put in my time at CU. I however think I took Procrastination 101, 102, 201, 202, 301, 302, 401, 402 and kept the notes! It's probably the only class I actually still use. :P
In other news, today I put my students on a talking fast. That's right, they are fasting from talking. I've been frustrated with them since about spring break. The lack of respect they show for themselves, each other and me is getting to me. While at LVR Luke told them this story about an organism who latched on to a fish's tongue and ate away at the tongue. Once the tongue was gone the organism became the tongue for the fish. No longer did it have to search for food, it merely ate what the fish ate. He then told the kids that sometimes Satan does that to us, he gets in our mouths and becomes our tongue and we say mean and hurtful things. I thought about that all weekend and decided that Satan definately had ahold of too many tongues in my classroom and it was up to me to boot him out! So a talking fast seemed like the best way. I worked fairly well today until we went to the library.
We had a few problems along the way so I spoke sternly to the students, made them line up single file in alphbetical order. The couldn't talk to or touch anyone! We went to the library and they were perfectly quiet. It was great. I went back to the library after school to get a book for myself to read and while there the librarian told me that she appreciated how well behaved my calss was this afternoon in the library. If she only knew...
More on the lovely children later.
As for now, I suppose that procrastination has reached its end and I really should at least grade a few papers, even if I don't get the grades entered into InClass tonight.
Oh...one more thought/comment. It's April 24 and it is currently snowing here in the Mile High City. I ask you one thing...Is it neccessary? (I actually suppose it is, moisture is good to keep the fire danger at a minimum.)
Peace out! :D
